As an geo-chemist and the Director of the Laboratory for Geochemical Oceanography at Harvard, he brings together all spheres of earth science in exploring the links between ocean circulation and climate. He also developed, with Dr. Paul Hoffman, the Snowball Earth hypothesis. As the Director of Harvard University’s Center for the Environment, he leads the university’s effort to create an interdisciplinary community of scientists, researchers, and students.

CALL FOR ART! DEADLINE 12/6/06
If you have students who would like their art showcased in an upcoming Classroom Encounters video, artwork must illustrate the science in the clips above.
You can look at Dr. Hoffman's Overview of the Greenhouse Effect 1:30 Windows Media -7MB / Quicktime 9M to get an idea how we use illustrations. Just make sure students watch the clip carefully so the image fits what the scientist is saying. We will consider sketches, drawings or illustrations smaller than 8.5 x 11 inches and scanned at 300 dpi. Parents will have to grant permission and sign a form that licenses the work to Classroom Encounters. We'll offer film credits to anyone whose art is accepted. For more information, please contact rita@classroomencounters.org.
